A photo shoot

Postby mumzy on Thu Apr 16, 2009 1:33 am

Hello Selina,
I absolutely love your Mermaid artwork motherhood.
I have a vision in my head to have a large photo in that style for a wall of my home.
It would be myself and my youngest son (12mths) in the centre in that pose, then my older son (4.5 yrs) and daughter (2.5yrs) and my husband surrounding us.
After a photo shoot I wish to have it edited to created tails for each person to make it look like one piece of art work.
How can I have your help to do this? And what would be my next steps in paying for rights etc?
Is this possible at all?
Many Thanks,
Mumzy from Perth WA

Hi Mumzy,
Sounds like a great idea! I don't mind at all for you to have a photo for yourself based on the motherhood artwork. One of my artist friends does commission work for photomanipulations, you could try her out, here's her gallery address- http://gina-marie.deviantart.com/

Thanks Selina.
How would I be able to work with Gina Marie if she is in the States? Any body you know in Perth?
Are there any rights or fees I need to pay to base the photo on your artwork, or is it ok being for my own home and personal use?
Many Thanks.

If you could find someone local to do the photo shoot, you could then send the photos to Gina Marie digitally online and she could create the final artwork from them for you, and probably send back a digital file for you to have printed locally.
No charge for basing it on my photo, because it is for personal use and you have the consideration to ask me :)

Wow, I do want to credit you somehow though.

Now the more I think about it, getting everyone right in a photo will be timely and tricky, could I bypass a photo shoot and just commission yourself to draw up the artwork for me with my families faces and bodies as a realistic drawing (I have seen one in the archives I think) by sending you our photos individually?

Does that make sense? I have a sketch that might help you see my vision, or not HAHA not an artist so feel free to have a chuckle at it :) http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/tt13 ... sketch.jpg
I would probably put my daughters head on more of a downward left angle and my older sons tail fin more curving to the right to make it more as a whole square picture. The background you have in the coloured version of motherhood in a washed out dark blue would be lovely.
I would love to work together with you and pay you to create this artwork for my home.
What is the largest size that could be done?

I'm sorry I'm not really taking commission work at the moment. I'm just too busy to fit anything else in, at least until I've finished the next oracle deck for Blue Angel Publishing.
If you get a photomanipulation artist to do the image for you, like Gina, you wouldn't need to take the photo of everyone together, you could still take the photos seperately and they can put it all together themselves.

Hello Salina,

I was hoping you might be able to revisit my post.

I know you mentioned you were too busy at the time to be able to do a commission piece and was hoping that maybe you could squeaze me in now.

I had contacted Gina and she was lovely and accomadating, yet since giving a deposit to help put together the piece, we had lost contact and time just seems to have passed by so quickly.

I just can't get your artwork out of my head and absolutely love every piece that you produce, to have a personalised one of my own would be a dream come true. Even if it was just the original Motherhood piece with my own face on it would be lovely.

Let me know your thoughts.
